34 Barnsbury Street
London, N1 1ER
Fepaji was established in 2008 by three master tailors who shared a vision of bringing authentic bespoke tailoring to London. Our workshop opened at 34 Barnsbury Street, where we continue to craft garments using techniques passed down through generations. Each founder brought distinct expertise: one trained in Savile Row establishments for 12 years, another specialized in Italian construction methods, and the third mastered pattern making at a renowned atelier in Paris.
The name Fepaji combines elements from our founders' backgrounds, representing a fusion of British precision, Italian elegance, and French finesse. This blend defines how we approach every commission.
Starting with a single cutting table and commitment to quality, we built our reputation through word of mouth. Our first year saw 47 completed suits. Today, we handle approximately 300 commissions annually while maintaining the same attention to detail.
We invested early in training apprentices, establishing a program that spans three years. Seven tailors who began as apprentices now work alongside us, ensuring our methods continue. This approach preserves techniques while allowing innovation in fit and construction.
Our workshop houses vintage machinery from the 1950s alongside modern equipment. A 1952 buttonhole machine still produces the finest work, while computerized pattern systems help achieve precision in measurements. This combination serves clients who value both tradition and contemporary fit.
We measure success by garments that remain in wardrobes for decades. Our focus stays on construction that allows alterations as bodies change, using full canvas interlinings and hand-sewn components throughout. Clients return because suits maintain their shape after years of wear.
Every commission receives the same process regardless of cloth selection. We source fabrics from mills in Huddersfield, Biella, and lesser-known weavers who produce exceptional materials. Our relationships with 23 mills span back to our founding, providing access to both classic and seasonal offerings.
Each suit requires between 45 and 60 hours of handwork. We use 18 stitches per inch on lapels, hand-pad collars with horsehair canvas, and attach buttons with thread shanks. These methods take longer but produce garments that move naturally and age gracefully.
We maintain detailed records of every measurement, preference, and adjustment. Most clients stay with us for years, some for over a decade. This history allows us to anticipate needs and refine fit with each new commission.
Our team attends workshops twice yearly to study developments in pattern cutting and pressing techniques. We also examine vintage garments to understand how master tailors solved construction challenges before modern materials existed.
Our team comprises 11 specialists with combined experience exceeding 180 years. Five hold City & Guilds qualifications in bespoke tailoring, three completed apprenticeships at established houses, and two trained in pattern making at technical colleges. This depth of knowledge addresses everything from posture-related fit issues to fabric behavior during pressing.
We work with barristers requiring court attire, executives building business wardrobes, and individuals marking significant occasions. Each client receives three fittings as standard, with additional sessions when needed. Our fitting process identifies not just measurements but how someone moves, sits, and carries themselves.
